Taking proper care of your vehicle by providing routine maintenance is the best way to keep it on the road for years. It can also save you money in the long run by taking care of small issues before they turn into bigger problems. If your vehicle is showing any of these signs, it’s time for you to find an auto shop to get a tune-up in Houston.

The Check Engine Light is On

This one is obvious, but that doesn’t mean it’s ok to ignore it. This is a primary indicator that something isn’t right with your vehicle. It could be anything from an oxygen sensor to your exhaust system, to a loose gas cap. The only way to know for sure is to take your vehicle in to have it diagnosed.

Difficulty Starting your car

If your vehicle doesn’t “turn over” properly every time you go to start your car, it’s a clear indicator that you needs auto service. It could be the battery, starter motor, timing belt, distributor cap, ignition coil, among other possibilities. Take it in for service as soon as you notice this issue.

Decreased Gas Mileage

If you’re having to fill up more often than usual, there’s a pretty good chance there’s something wrong. It could be a bad fuel injector, a dirty filter, faulty spark plugs, or a number of other issues.

Knocking Noises

If you hear odd knocking or clinking noise, chances are your vehicle needs service. It could be a bad spark plug, fuel injector, or a number of other issues. If you hear knocking, bring your vehicle in for a diagnosis as soon as possible.

Squealing When you Turn

If you hear squealing when you turn the steering wheel, it may just mean you have low fluids. It could also mean that you have a leak. If you have a leak and it goes unserviced, your car could be seriously damaged. Be sure to take your car in for service before then.

The Brakes Feel “Spongy”

If your brakes feel softer, or “spongy” when you use them, or if the brake pedal goes down further before activating the brakes, it’s a pretty safe bet that your brakes need service. It could be brake fluid, brake pads, or something even more serious.
